Car Parks

There are several car parks in the Town. Those in or near the centre of the Town hold just over 1000 vehicles. There are a further 1,000 places in the Park & Ride car park by the Guided Busway to the East of Harrison Way ring road. There is also on-street parking, much of which is free for a very short visit. Further afield, the indoor and outdoor sport & Leisure centres have a further 420 places.

Cattle Market Car Park
This is near the bus station and Market Hill and has a mixture of long and short stay parking as well as a section for Waitrose shoppers.

Darwood Pond

Dolphin Hotel Car Park
This is a private car park by the hotel. It has 300 spaces and costs £2 to park all day, however it can flood at certain times of the year.

Park & Ride
There is a £1 parking charge that will allow you to park for between 1 and 18 hours. It is free for up to 1 hour.

How to pay
Daily tickets can be purchased from ticket machines. There are no barriers and the ticket does not need to be displayed in the vehicle. The system uses cameras that have automatic number plate recognition on entrances and exits. Failure to purchase a ticket after 1 hour will be treated as a parking violation and enforcement action taken by the issuing of a Penalty Charge Notice.
Can I park for longer?
Parking for longer than 18 hours is allowed but the following charges apply:
Between 18 and 24 hours: £10
Between 24 and 48 hours: £20
Between 48 and 72 hours: £30
The maximum permitted stay is 72 hours. Tickets are available from the ticket machines or can be purchased in advance online.

Weekly (up to 7 days): £5
Four weekly: £18

Annual: £230
